Connor Jones’ Scouting Report

Jones has an athletic frame to go with a promising mid-90s four-seam fastball and a sinking two-seamer to complement it. He also has an above average changeup, a potential plus-slider and a decent curveball. He has repeatable mechanics, uses his whole body well and knows how to command all his pitches. Jones has a variety of pitches and probably the best changeup in this year’s draft.

Strengths

  • Solid changeup
  • Plus potential fastball
  • Good mechanics
  • Above average slider
  • Good command
  • Versatile can pitch out of the pen or start
  • Safe pick

Weaknesses

  • Low strikeout rate
  • Virginia pitchers don’t have a good track record in the majors

Where could Jones end up in the draft?

The Angels may be the ceiling for Jones with the floor being the Cardinals at 34. I could see Jones falling to the Dodgers at 34 if Kyle Muller or Robert Tyler isn’t available.
