Delvin Perez’s Scouting Report

Perez has great bat speed and shows contact ability with power potential. He does wrap the bat, but this is something that can be adjusted with coaching and experience. Perez’s defense is what has most teams excited about the quick twitch athlete. He has good range at shortstop to go with a plus arm and should be able to remain at the position long term.

Strengths

  • Quick twitch athlete with very good range
  • Plus arm
  • Tons of potential
  • Good baseball instincts
  • Plus speed

Weaknesses

  • Needs to improve his approach at the plate
  • Needs to add muscle
  • Struggles with pitch recognition

Carlos Correa – Houston Astros

Where could Perez end up in the draft?

Perez could go number two overall to the Reds, but it looks like Cincinnati will take Nick Senzel at the spot. The Brewers at five would be the next option for the shortstop. I don’t see him slipping past the Marlins at seven if he makes it that far.
