On this day in 1981, Houston Astros shortstop Craig Reynolds hit three triples in a 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.  Reynolds was just the seventh player to achieve the feat in major league history.

On this day in 2001, Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa hit his 400th career home run.

On this day in 2004, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets struck out 18 Atlanta Braves batters, becoming the 14th player to strike that many batters out in a nine-inning game.
