Rangers Acquire Cole Hamels from the Phillies

The Texas Rangers have acquired Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports. TR Sullivan of MLB.com is reporting that right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff and catcher Jorge Alfaro are going to the Phillies.  Jon Morosi of FOX Sports is reporting that outfield prospect Nick Williams and one other player are heading to Philadelphia. Williams has already been pulled from his game in Double-A tonight, according to Morosi.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports is now reporting that the Phillies will also send Jake Diekman to the Rangers.  He also reports that Alec Asher is the fourth player that Philadelphia will receive. Morosi reports that the Rangers will get Hamels, Diekman and cash from the Phillies for Alfaro, Williams, Eickhoff, Asher, Matt Harrison and one other player.   Jake Thompson is the other player heading to Philly, according to Evan Grant.

We ranked Alfaro third and Williams fourth in our preseason rankings for the Rangers. Thompson was ranked eighth in our rankings and Asher was 18th.
