Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators got a big commitment on Wednesday from quarterback Jake Allen. Allen is the first quarterback to commit to McElwain, who took over the job in December.
The 6’3″ Florida native received an offer from the Gators three weeks ago and committed to the team after finishing a cross country trip visiting Michigan, Stanford and Notre Dame.
“After speaking with my head coach and my quarterback coach, we believe that this makes the most sense for me,” Allen said. “I like the offense that (offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier) runs and it’s just the way it felt when I was up there on my visit the last time — it just felt like family and I was comfortable there. I felt ready — I feel like it’s time to pull the trigger and get started on this recruiting class.”
Allen is the number 37 player in his state, the number 14 pro style quarterback and ranked as the 281st player in the country, according to 247Sports.
