6. Oakland Athletics, Brendan McKay, LHP (Louisville)
McKay was the player that shared the Freshman of the Year honors with Schwarz in 2015, posting a 1.77 ERA in 96 2/3 innings. He followed that season up with a 2.30 ERA in 109 2/3 innings in 2016. The southpaw has tremendous command and three plus-potential pitches. McKay is also a great hitter, putting up a slash of .321/.416/.474 with 10 home runs in his two seasons at Louisville.
Other players the Athletics could take: Tristan Beck, Colton Hock, J.B. Bukauskas, Pavin Smith
7. Arizona Diamondbacks, D.L. Hall, LHP (Houston County HS, Georgia)
Hall’s fastball has plus-potential and will touch 95 every now and then. He also has a plus-potential curveball and a decent changeup. Hall needs to work on commanding his pitches better, but there’s no doubt that he has the most potential out of all the prep lefties in this draft.
Other players the Diamondbacks could take: Pavin Smith, Jordon Adell, J.J. Schwarz, Brady McConnell
8. Philadelphia Phillies, Kyle Wright, RHP (Vanderbilt)
Wright has been great for the Commodores in his two seasons at Vandy, posting a 2.37 ERA in 152 innings. He also has 169 strikeouts during that span. He has a solid fastball to go with an above average breaking ball. Wright is a 1-1 candidate.
Other players the Phillies could take: Tristan Beck, Colton Hock, Brady McConnell, Brendan McKay
9. Milwaukee Brewers, Alex Faedo, RHP (Florida)
There’s plenty of talented college pitchers in this draft, with Alex Faedo being one of the more intriguing prospects. Faedo is a strikeout pitcher with a tremendous, plus-potential fastball (92-95 MPH) and slider (mid-80s).
Other players the Brewers could take: D.L. Hall, Jordon Adell, Brady McConnell, Pavin Smith
10. Los Angeles Angels, Brady McConnell, SS (Merritt Island HS, Florida)
McConnell is one of the more impressive defensive players in the draft. He has plus speed, a plus-potential glove and arm, but still has work to do at the plate. He should go early based on his speed and defense alone.
Other players the Angels could take: J.J Schwarz, Alex Lange, Tristan Beck, Brendan McKay, Pavin Smith
