The Houston Astros have acquired left-handed reliever Oliver Perez from the Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league lefty Junior Garcia. The Astros also placed Sam Deduno on the 60-day disabled list to clear a spot for Perez. Arizona announced that they’ve selected Keith Hessler contact and he will take Perez’s place on their roster.
Perez, 33, has posted a 3.10 ERA in 29 innings this season. He’s also striking out 11.5 batters per nine innings and has a 38.9% groundball rate.
Garcia, 19, has been very good in his short time in the minor leagues, posting a 2.20 ERA and a WHIP of 1.21 over 114 2/3 innings since 2013. The young southpaw has posed a 0.96 ERA in 37 1/3 innings this season.
