The Houston Astros have promoted top prospect Carlos Correa, and have optioned Jake Buchanan to Triple-A. Correa will join the team tomorrow for the start of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.
Correa was ranked fifth in the Fueled by Sports Preseason Top Prospects list. Byron Buxton remains the only top five prospect that has yet to make his major league debut this season. Baseball America had Correa preseason ranked fourth, while MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus both had him third.
Correa, 20, was taken first overall by the Astros in the 2012 Amateur Draft. He was hitting .332 this season with 10 homers and 18 stolen bases in Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno.
This isn’t a surprising move for Houston, as starting shortstop Marwin Gonzalez has struggled this season, hitting just .227.
