The Houston Astros have called up Vincent Velasquez, according to Brian Mactaggart of MLB.com. He will start Wednesday’s game agains the Chicago White Sox.
Velasquez was unranked in the Fueled by Sports Top 100, but he is still a four star prospect. MLB.com ranked him 86th and Baseball Prospectus ranked him 75 this offseason. He was having a great season at Double-A Corpus Christi, posting 1.37 ERA with a 3-0 record over 26 1/3 innings.
Velasquez throws a 93-96 MPH fastball, a plus changeup and a 82-84 MPH slider. He does have arm troubles and has already had Tommy John Surgery in 2011. He also struggled with injuries in 2014 but it was not arm related.
Velasquez will be taking Roberto Hernandez sport in the rotation.
