The Oakland Athletics announced today that they’ve claimed Danny Valencia off of waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. Valencia was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays over the weekend.
Valencia was having a very good season and a lot of people were surprised by the Blue Jays move, but they needed to make room for Ben Revere and Troy Tulowitzki, who they acquired last week. The 30-year-old is hitting .296/.331/.506 with seven homers and 29 RBIs this season. The third baseman fits best in a platoon role, as he hits lefties very well.
