The Oakland Athletics announced on Friday that they’ve designated righty Taylor Thompson for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster for Brad Mills, who will start tonight’s game against the Orioles. The team also optioned Arnold Leon to Triple-A.
Thompson, 28, didn’t get the opportunity to pitch in the big leagues this season, and only has 5 1/3 inning of major league experience, which came last season. He’s spent most of the season on the disabled list with a shoulder strain.
Thompson has posted a 7.27 ERA in 8 2/3 innings in Class-A and Triple-A this season.
