The Atlanta Braves have designated reliever Donnie Veal for assignment for the second time this season. The team has recalled reliever Cody Martin from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Everyone expected this move after Veal gave up two earned runs in yesterday’s game against the Giants. The Braves were up 3-2 with a runner on second when Veal entered and after two hits and three runs the lefty was removed from the game. Luckily for Veal the Braves would pull off a ninth inning comeback.
Veal, 30, has given up seven earned runs in just 4 1/3 innings this season.
Martin, 25, got off to a good start for the Braves but started to struggle as the innings added up. He has a 4.12 ERA in 19 2/3 innings this season.
