The Toronto Blue Jays have designated Danny Valencia and Ezequiel Careera for assignment, the team announced. The team also called up infielder Munenori Kawasaki and optioned Ryan Tepera to Triple-A.
Valencia, 30, was having a productive season, hitting .296/.331/.506 with seven homers and 29 RBIs in 173 plate appearances. He played mostly against left-handed pitching. The move was made to clear a spot for recently acquired Ben Revere on the active roster.
Valencia should draw interest from multiple teams and should be back in the show soon.
