Atlanta Braves infielder Phil Gosselin is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing thumb surgery, which he suffered fielding a ground ball during Sunday’s game against the Marlins.
Gosselin was having a great week and season, hitting .325 in 42 plate appearances and was starting to look like the starter at third moving forward. He took over for Chris Johnson after he went to the disabled list with a hand injury.
The Braves will now look to Alberto Callaspo and Pedro Ciriaco to fill in at third. The team has also called up infielder Adonis Garcia, who was hitting .351 in Triple-A Gwinnett in a 134 at-bats.
