The Atlanta Braves have promoted Mike Foltynewicz to pitch tomorrow’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. The team has designated right-handed reliever David Carpenter for assignment to make room for the 23-year-old Folty.
This is the second time that the Braves have designated Carpenter this season. The 27-year-old struggled in his 3 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Foltynewicz has already pitched 54 2/3 innings in the big leagues this season, posting a 5.27 ERA. Most of his struggles have come from the inability to locate his pitches and leaving his fastball over the middle of the plate. The hard throwing righty has had better success in the minors, posting a 3.49 ERA in 56 2/3 innings in Triple-A Gwinnett.
