Veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski has agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves. The deal is still pending a physical and probably won’t be official to the beginning of the year.
Pierzynski, 37, played in a total of 102 games last season with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. He hit .251 with five homers and 37 RBIs. He will be the backup catcher for rookie Christian Bethancourt and be a mentor towards the young catcher.
This was a big pickup for the Braves, as they continue to add veteran leadership, which was something they lacked last season.
