Elvisi Dusha is a professional basketball player who has recently signed for the Worcester Wolves in the British Basketball League.
The 23 year old has previous experience in the BBL with Surrey and Plymouth, and is now taking his skills to Worcester, set to lead their offence as a primary ball handler.
Dusha represented Great Britain at Under 20 level, and then faced the choice to either represent Great Britain at senior level, or to play for his home nation Albania:
“My decision to play for Albania was the second I no longer was eligible to play for Great Britain (U20), there was many reason as to why I made that decision but my main reason is I’m Albanian and Albania will always be my home. ”
Having spent some time playing basketball overseas, the 6″2 Guard expressed his excitement to be back playing in the BBL once again:
“It’s great to be back in the league, playing in the country I was raised in having family and friends close around me is a blessing & also having been around for a few years, you really get to see the league develop & becoming more competitive & professional year by year.”
Dusha went on to explain that he does not have a so called ‘off season’, as he is constantly putting in extra work. For him, it doesn’t feel like time off:
“I have not really had and off season in few years now, if I’m not in the season I’m either with the national team or doing something with basketball over the off season, but being in constant season with all the fiba competitions keeps you on your A game especially going up against some of the teams and players I have over the years.
“It’s really helpful having a different coach during off-season learn new things see different views learn more about the game & in Europe defence is a big part of all programs so I was fortunate to learn a lot on that side of basketball.”
Elvisi’s hard work over the past few years has landed him on a very strong Worcester Wolves team heading in to the 2017-2018 season. Dusha outlined his goals are much higher than simply making the playoffs:
“I think I made a great decision by signing with the Wolves and I really enjoy the guys the coaches & especially the fans it’s a really professional environment.
“We have a group of hungry young guys who want to win so the playoffs for us is one of our goals, but we are aiming much higher. We are chasing that silverware & the number one spot on the table.”
The Albanian will be returning to his roots in Surrey very early on in the season, as the Wolves travel to the Scorchers on Sunday October 15th. Dusha had nothing but positive comments about where his professional career began:
“Surrey was an awesome experience for me and I loved my time there from start to finish through the good & bad.
“Coach Creon is someone I always turn to for advice & guidance he’s really help and looked out for me over the years and I will forever be grateful. Tayo & Caylin are two guys I’ve grown up watching & playing with so always nice going up against good friends. I’m even more excited to play at the (Surrey) Sports Park again as the fans were truly awesome with the team and especially myself.”
Finally, Dusha highlighted his pride in competing with the Albanian National Team over the summer, and who he thought was a standout player at EuroBasket 2017:
“This summer we competed in the World Championships Qualifiers, and in a few months we shall be returning back to EuroBasket competitions. It’s a blessing as it’s every basketball players dream to play for their country and I was humble enough to be the starting Point Guard for mine.”
“Luca Doncic should be a living icon to every young player growing up, he’s going to make a big impact in the NBA no doubt he’s going to be a top 3 first round pick.”
Elvisi Dusha and the Worcester Wolves begin their BBL season against the London Lions this Friday.
