Chris Betts’ Scouting Report

Hitting

Betts has a quiet, short and simple swing that generates plenty of bat speed.  He has plus power and contact ability and knows the strike zone very well.  He also knows how to use all fields and can hit to the left center gap. Betts looks like a future cleanup or 5-hole hitter.

Fielding

Betts looks like a future first baseman or corner outfielder with an average glove. He has an above average arm and has been recorded with a 1.90 pop time. Betts could be a catcher in the majors but he looks more like a DH.

Baserunning

Betts won’t be stealing bases at any level, but he does seem like a smart baserunner.

Chris Betts’ Best Fit

Betts is best suited for an American League team, with his ability to hit and the chance to be a designated hitter.  His best fit is the Royals at the 21st pick.  Betts could come up through an exciting organization and have a chance to compete for a starting role come 2019 or 2020, with the potential exit of Salvador Perez after the 2017 season.
