Dansby Swanson’s Scouting Report
Swanson became the first overall pick to be traded when the Diamondbacks sent him to Atlanta in a deal that sent Shelby Miller and Gabe Speier to Arizona and Ender Inciarte, Aaron Blair and Swanson to the Braves.
Swanson is one of the best prospects in baseball and should be the shortstop in Atlanta for a long time. He has a sound approach at the plate and is great at finding a way to get on base. He currently has a .375 on-base percentage and a .445 slugging percentage at the minor league level (through June 11, 2016). He has the ability to hit to all fields with his quick and compact swing. Swanson has looked like a double machine this year, already racking up 17 doubles in 227 at-bats, which is an average of one double every 13.4 at-bats. He has shown signs of average power and could potentially be a threat to go deep 15-20 times a season.
Swanson has plus speed and could be a dynamic leadoff or two-hole hitter. Swanson’s glove has shown signs of plus potential, while his arm is definitely strong enough for him to remain at short.
