NFL

On this day in 2006, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 in Super Bowl XL.  It was the Steelers fifth Super Bowl win in franchise history.  Hines Ward won the MVP, catching 5 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.

NBA

On this day in 1993, Boston Celtic center Robert Parish played in his 1,304th NBA game, which moved him in second place in all-time games played, only trailing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s 1,560. Parish scored 18 points in grabbed 14 rebounds in the Boston 105-93 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

MLB

On this day in 1999, Major League Baseball announced that it would name an award after Hank Aaron. Aaron had 755 career home runs, 2,297 RBIs, and 3,771 hits.
