On this day in 1987, Michael Jordan took off from the foul line to achieve his iconic dunk in the Nestle Crunch Slam Dunk contest in Seattle.
On this day in 1949, Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio became the first American League player to make $100,000 in one season, but he wasn’t the first player. That honor went to Hank Greenberg, who made that much in 1947 while playing for the Pirates.
