On this day in 1991, Dee Brown won the NBA Slam Dunk contest, with his “Peek-A-Boo” dunk being the highlight of the competition.

NFL

On this day in 2001, the AFC beat the NFC 38-30 in the Pro Bowl. The win for the AFC tied up the series at 16 games apiece. Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon won the game’s MVP.

MLB

On this day in 1971, Satchel Paige became the first Negro League player to be selected to the Hall of Fame. Paige started his professional career in the 1920s and played until 1965. He played for several different Negro League teams and also played with the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, and Kansas City Athletics.
