NFL

On this day in 1992, the Washington Redskins beat the Buffalo Bills 37-24 in Super Bowl XXVI. It was the Redskins third Super Bowl win in 10 years. Washington’s quarterback Mark Rypien threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns, winning the game MVP.

NBA

On this day in 1991, Houston Rockets guard Vernon Maxwell scored 30 points the fourth quarter of the Rockets 103-97 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, becoming the fifth player in NBA history to achieve that. He joined Wilt Chamberlain, David Thompson, George Gervin, and Michael Jordan. Maxwell would finish the game with 51 points.

MLB

On this day in 2012, the Detroit Tigers and Prince Fielder agreed to a nine-year, $214 million deal. The Tigers made the decision after losing Victor Martinez for the entire season. Fielder’s dad, Cecil, played for Detroit in the 1990’s, and Prince would hit batting practice their as a child and would often hit line drive home runs. Fielder would be traded to Texas two years later.
