Scouting Report

Jones is a very explosive player and looks the part of a five-tool player. He has serious power and is the best defensive outfielder in this class by a huge margin. Jones has the highest ceiling in the whole class and should only get stronger as his frame fills out in the coming years. If everything works out for Jones than he should be a 40-40 candidate with his speed which is better than his father, Andrew Jones. Jones, also has a great arm in the outfield and has no major weaknesses that stick out when you watch him.

  • Solid approach
  • Hits to all fields
  • Line drive hitter
  • Plus runner
  • Plus defensive skills
  • Great baseball instincts
  • No major weaknesses

  • Needs to improve his swing to unlock true potential

Where could Jones end up in the draft?

Jones should be the first pick in the draft, but there will be a number of factors considered, with Brooks Lee being the only player that could take that top spot from him. We really see no way that the Orioles select anyone other than Jones with the first pick, but there has been stranger things that have happened. The only thing that could keep the from taking him would be bonus negotiations, with Jones being committed to Vanderbilt, which could make the Orioles worry a little bit about making the pick. This could be the type of pick that could really turn the tide for the Orioles. The Orioles already have Adley Rutschman, Grayson Rodriguez and others close to being ready for the big leagues. The future should be bright in Baltimore with all of that young talent and to add a once in generation player like Jones would just be the icing on the cake.
