East Carolina Stuns Virginia Tech

This time last week we where watching Virginia Tech upset Ohio State.  This week the table where turned, as East Carolina beat the Hokies 28-21. East Carolina got off to a hot start early, with three touchdowns in the first quarter.

Shane Carden was definitely the player of the game, he finished with 427 yards passing and three touchdowns. Carden also rushed for a touchdown to give them the lead late in the game.  Cam Worthy had a big game for ECU with 224 yards receiving on just six receptions.  East Carolina snapped a five game losing streak against ranked opponents.

Micheal Brewer completed 30 of his 56 attempts for 298 yards. Brewer also threw three touchdowns and two interceptions. Isaiah Ford, who had the catch of the game, finished with 77 yards and two touchdowns. Kendall Fuller also looked impressive on the defensive side of the ball for the Hokies.

This game could have been a lot worse, as ECU missed a fourth down conversion on VT Tech 11 yard line.  Shane Carden also fumbled VT Tech one yard line. The Hokies looked like a complete opposite team today.  Looking at this game on paper you would almost have to guess that the Hokies won this game.  Virginia Tech  had far fewer penalties, had possession of the ball 13 more minutes than ECU did.  The Hokies also had a better third down efficiency, but they weren’t able to put the ball into the end zone until late in the second quarter.

Virginia Tech had a great drive to tie up the game with 1:20 left, and it looked like this game was heading to overtime.  Then East Carolina got the ball back and took it down the field on three plays to score a touchdown with 16 seconds left.

I think that Virginia Tech got a big head after beating Ohio State last week, and thought this game would be no problem.

Virginia Tech will play Georgia Tech at home next week.

East Carolina will play North Carolina at home next week.
