Five Observations After Week 2 of the College Football Season

Something needs to be done about out of conference schedules

The Auburn-Jacksonville State and Toledo-Arkansas games were very competitive compared to the mismatches that they appeared to be on paper. However, for every one of those games, you get about twenty TCU-Stephen F. Austin and Ole Miss-Tennessee Martin blowouts in the first few weeks of each season because of the cup cake out of conference schedules. This is probably not going to change any time soon because coaches want to keep their jobs and it is easier for them to do so when they schedule three to four easy wins each season so they can make a bowl game. It is good to see programs like Michigan State and Oregon as well as Arizona State and Texas A&M take chances by scheduling difficult out of conference games. More of that needs to be done.
