Garrett Whitley’s Scouting Report

Hitting

Whitley has tremendous bat speed but still has problems with his swing and currently lacks the ability to hit for average at the professional level. He has a good approach at the plate and looks to have above average power potential. He hits a ton of ground balls and relies on his speed to get on base. Whitley definitely needs to work on a few things at the plate, but he looks like the closest thing to a five-tool player in this year’s draft.

Fielding

Whitely looks like a centerfielder with an excellent arm to go with a solid glove.

Baserunning

Whitley best weapon is his speed, which makes him a threat on the base paths. He looks like a guy that could steal 30 plus bases a season.

Garrett Whitley’s Best Fit

Whitley’s best fit would be the Arizona Diamondbacks with the first pick. Arizona went with outfielder Justin Upton the last time they had the first pick, and they might be thinking that way again. Whitley is a high-risk, high-reward type player and would be a perfect fit for the rebuilding Diamondbacks with his speed and power potential.
