Geno Smith out 6-10 weeks after being punched by teammate

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will miss the next 6-10 weeks with a broken jaw after being suckered punched by teammate Ikemefuna Enemkpali in the locker room on Tuesday.  Jets coach Todd Bowles made the announcement in a news conference this morning.  Bowles said that the two players got into an “altercation” and ”It had nothing to do with football, it was something very childish, and he got cold-cocked, sucker-punched – whatever you want to call it – in the jaw.”

Enemkpali, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft, has been released by the Jets according to Bowles.

The injury to Smith’s jaw will require surgery to repair it. “Depending on how surgery goes, we’ll see where we go from there,” Bowles said.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starting quarterback moving forward and the team will have to wait and see how Smith’s recovery goes.
