Giants and Phillies Talking Chase Utley Trade

The San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies are discussing a trade that involves Chase Utley heading out west to San Francisco, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Utley, 36, cleared waivers yesterday and is now free to be traded to any clue he wishes since he has 10-and-5 rights.  Most would think that Utley would accept a trade to the Giants, since it would give him another opportunity at a ring.  You also could say that Utley would want to finish his career in Philadelphia, the only place he’s played at in his 13-year career.

Utley would provide the Giants with a second baseman until Joe Panik comes off the disabled list.  He would then provide a great bat off the bench and could also possibly play first base.

The six-time All-Star is hitting .196/.266/.298 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in 267 plate appearances this season.
