Hanley Ramirez will finalize a deal with the Boston Red Sox on Monday, the deal will be in the five-year $90 million range according to Ken Rosenthal.
This is a great move for the Red Sox and they’re still in hot pursuit of Pablo Sandoval. They might have the best infield in baseball if they strike that deal.
Hanley Ramirez hit .283 this year with 13 homers and has really turned his career around the last two season in Los Angeles. Ramirez will be 31 an exactly a month.
The Red Sox already have a good young shortstop in Xander Bogaerts and I’m wondering if they want Ramirez to play another position. Could he play in the outfield? The Red Sox will have a lot of things to figure out, but that’s not a bad thing.
Boston is an a good situation and hopefully this big deal won’t back fire on them. I like Ramirez in the short term, but not so much in the long term. I would have gone after a three-year deal for him, but that’s just me.
Hanley Ramirez rejected the Dodgers qualifying offer, so the Dodgers added a pick. The Red Sox will lose their second round pick, since their first round pick is protected.
