Hunter Pence Placed on Disabled List

The San Francisco Giants have placed Hunter Pence on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle.  The injury occurred during Monday’s game against the Cardinals.

San Francisco is already without center field Angel Pagan and left fielder Nori Aoki, but it looks like Aoki will return to the team on Thursday.  You would have to guess that Pence will be out until early September and that definitely hurts the Giants, as the face the toughest part of their schedule.  They play the Cardinals four more times, four games against the Pirates and three against the Cubs in the next two weeks.

This is the third time that Pence has been placed on the DL this season.  The 32-year-old is hitting a slash .275/.327/.478 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs in 223 plate appearances.
