Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Hyun-jin Ryu is considering have shoulder surgery, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
Reports out of Korea are that Ryu is scheduled to have surgery this week, but Passan says that the decision has not been made yet.
The 28-year-old has not pitched in a game this season due to a shoulder inflammation that started during Spring Training.
The Dodgers have already lost Brandon McCarty for the season due to Tommy John Surgery and are still waiting on free agent signee Brandon Beachy to fully recover from Tommy John Surgery. Los Angeles has been fine without Ryu, posting a record of 24-13 and are 4 1/2 games up on the Giants. They will have to rely on Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Brett Anderson, Carlos Frias and Mike Bollinger for a good part of the season. The Dodgers might be in the market for a starting pitcher if Ryu does elect to have the surgery, resulting in him missing the rest of the season.
