The Cleveland Indians have designated lefty Bruce Chen for assignment and recalled righty Austin Adams from Triple-A Columbus, according to the team.
Chen, 37, struggled this season for Cleveland, allowing nine runs, 17 hits and three home runs in just 6 1/3 innings. Last season, Chen posted a 7.45 ERA for the Royals in 13 starts. If he clears waivers he will be sent back to Columbus, where he posted a 1.74 ERA over 5 starts with a 2-1 record. You have to think he might consider retiring if he clears waivers.
