The Los Angeles Angels have acquired David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians, the teams announced. The Angels will send infield prospect Eric Stamets to the Indians. The move came just a few minutes after the team acquired David DeJesus from the Rays and a day after the team acquired Shane Victorino from the Red Sox.
The 33-year-old Murphy is hitting .296/.344/.437 with five homers and 27 RBIs in 229 plate appearances. Murphy could platoon with Victorino in either corner outfield spot.
Stamets, 23, has hit a slash of .248/.306/.360 with three homers and 23 RBIs in 241 plate appearances. The shortstop is one of the top defensive players in baseball right now, but his struggles at the plate could make him a liability at the next level.
