Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith announced today that number one overall pick Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback for the team.
“Jameis Winston is our starting quarterback. He’ll be taking first-team reps tomorrow,” Smith said at the first practice of training camp. “We brought him in here to be our quarterback.”
The only other quarterbacks on the Bucs roster are Mike Glennon and Seth Lobato. Smith also said that Winston doesn’t need veteran to mentor him. The Bucs also expect Winston to throw the football a lot and they won’t take their time breaking him in to the NFL.
This isn’t a surprising move as the Bucs aren’t loaded with talent at the position, so you might as well go with your best player which is Winston.
