Cardinals right fielder Jason Heyward left Monday night’s game after two innings with left hamstring tightness and is not in the St. Louis lineup tonight.
Manager Mike Matheny said that it looks to just be a cramp, but the team wants to take things slow and not rush him back on the field.
“With the tests they did and reports that came back it looks even more like a cramp than anything else,” he said. “The protocol is to make sure there’s no sorts of tears or anything. Now it will be just how he feels and doctors testing him.”
“He’s been playing every day and every day well,” Matheny said. “With Peter, we just have to get him going. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities. If we get him in there and he takes off, he might be playing. But Tommy has been a guy that has set himself apart. When we brought him up for two games, he made a significant impact.”
Rookie Stephen Piscotty will start in right field for the Cardinals against the Giants.
