Josh Harrison Out Six Weeks with Torn Ligament in Thumb

Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison will miss six weeks with a torn ligament in his thumb, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Harrison will seek a second opinion once the swelling goes down on the hand. For now there’s no specific timeline on his recovery, according to Adam Berry of MLB.com.

Travis Ishikawa has been called up to take the place of Harrison on the Pirates roster.

Harrison, 27, was hitting a slash of .279/.313/.384 with four homers and 22 RBIs this season. He was coming off a great 2013 All-Star season, hitting .315 with 13 homers and 52 RBIs.

Jung Ho Kang will take his place at third base and Jordy Mercer will play shortstop. The team will definitely miss Harrison, as they approach an important series against the Cardinals.
