Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire suffered a broken ankle during Saturday’s 34-27 victory over Virginia and will miss the rest of the season.
Zaire injured his ankle in the third quarter when he got caught under a Virginia defender during a run. The training staff had to carry him to the sidelines and he was eventually carted away.
The X-rays showed a fracture in the ankle. The redshirt sophomore completed 7 of 18 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 87 yards on 10 carries during Saturday’s game.
Redshirt freshman DeShone Kizer will be the starting quarterback moving forward.
