Marlins Name GM Dan Jennings Manager

Current Marlins General Manager Dan Jennings has been named the Marlins new manager. Mike Redmond was fired yesterday by the team. Jennings will be Miami’s fourth manager in the past five seasons.

Jennings has never managed in the major leagues and hasn’t managed a baseball team in 30 years, which makes this move very questionable.  Jennings played college baseball at Southern Miss and was signed by the New York Yankees in 1984.  He didn’t play in the organization long, becoming a coach for Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama.  He became a scout for the Cincinnati Reds in 1986.

He then joined the Seattle Marines in 1988 and was an area scout for the team until 1995 when he accepted a job with the Tampa Bay Rays as their scouting director.  Jennings then became the Marlins Vice President of Player Personnel in 2002.  Jennings landed the assistant GM job in 2007, and became the GM at the end of the 2013 season.

Miami will enter the week fourth place in the National League East, six games back of the New York Mets.

This is a very interesting move and I personally don’t think it will work out.
