The Miami Marlins have place right-hander Jose Fernandez on the disabled list with a strained biceps muscle. This is definitely positive news if you’re a Marlins fan, since the injury has nothing to do with the elbow. Lefty Justin Nicolino has been recalled and will start tonight’s game against the Red Sox.
The 23-year-old returned from Tommy John surgery in July and it looks like the team will shut him down for the rest of this season, with the team out of the playoff race.
Fernandez made just seven starts this season, posting a 2.30 ERA and a SHIP of 1.02 in seven starts, while going 4-0. He also held a 53/10 K/BB ratio in the 43 innings he pitched.
