Mets Still Seeking Impact Bat

The New York Mets are still seeking a big bat, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. New York has been rumored to be looking for an outfield bat since Michael Cuddyer went on the disabled list.

Heyman thinks that the team is just looking for an impact bat at any position.  The Mets have been looking to add Justin Upton of the Padres, Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez, Reds outfielder Jay Bruce and Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies.   Two other guys to keep an eye on would be Yasiel Puig and Yoenis Cespedes.

The Tigers announced earlier today that they would deal their pending free agents with Cespedes being one of those players.  Puig is also another guy to watch out for, as there’s been conflicting reports on whether or not the Dodgers want to deal their young outfielder.  Puig makes sense because the Dodgers are seeking pitching, which is something the Mets have plenty of.  The Mets could do a swap giving the Dodgers either Jacob deGrom or Matt Harvey, but that might cause a riot at Citi Field.  The Mets have the pitching to get them to the postseason, but they don’t have the bats to score the runs for those pitchers.  So the team may have no choice but to part with one of their young stars to receive an impact bat.

Zack Wheeler is another name that may be thrown out there in trades, but he would most likely be involved in a trade that included Bruce or Upton.
