Mets Still Trying to Add Outfielder

The New York Mets are still looking to add an outfielder and Jay Bruce looks like the player they’re most interested in right now.  New York doesn’t want to give up Zack Wheeler for a short term rental, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.  Passan also adds that the only way Wheeler will be traded today will be in a Bruce deal.  San Diego Padres outfielder Justin Upton still remains in play, but New York has shifted their focus to Bruce.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported earlier that the Mets and Red are working toward a deal to add Bruce.  He says the deal should happen.  The teams are still reviewing medical records on Bruce and Wheeler, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.

It looks like the Mets will add two bats and one of them will not be Bruce, as it looks like the Reds are having second thoughts” about the proposed deal by the Mets, according to Jerry Crasnick.  The two bats that Mets could be interested in are two of these three players: Upton, Yoenis Cespedes and Will Venable, according to Andy Martino of the New York Post.

The 28-year-old Bruce has been great this season, hitting .257/.341/.486 with 17 home runs and 59 RBIs.  The two-time All-Star would be a great addition for the Mets, who desperately need a middle of the order bat.
