Mickey Moniak’s Scouting Report
Moniak is a solid hitter with a very sound approach and gold glove caliber defense. He makes solid contact from the left side of the plate, hitting the ball to all fields. He has all the makings of a future leadoff batter, with his approach, contact ability and speed. Moniak’s defense is what sets him apart from the rest of the high school outfielders though.
Strengths
- Solid approach
- Hits to all fields
- Line drive hitter
- Plus runner
- Plus defensive skills
- Great baseball instincts
Weaknesses
- Needs to add strength
- Needs to improve arm strength

Where could Moniak end up in the draft?
Moniak is a candidate to go 1-1 in the upcoming draft, but it looks like the Phillies are going to take A.J. Puk with the pick. It doesn’t look like the Reds are interested in Moniak, while the Braves look set on a college outfielder or a prep arm. The Rockies want a college arm, but I don’t believe they’ll take one unless Puk is available. Moniak makes perfect sense for the Rockies, who took Brendan Rodgers with their first-round pick last year. Moniak would give Colorado two young and high-potential position players in the minors.
