Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera will test his injured left calf on Tuesday by running the bases and taking live batting practice, according to Alejandro Zúñiga of MLB.com. Cabrera strained his calf on July 4th and has been out of the Tigers lineup since.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is ready to see how his two-time MVP does running.
“The important thing is that he comes through the baserunning portion,” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Sunday morning. “He’s been hitting on the field, so I’m not really concerned about the live batting practice.
“It’s the baserunning that we need to get him past before the next step can be taken.”
Cabrera, 32, was having another MVP type season when he went down, hitting .350/.456/.578 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs.
