Mike Hessman Breaks All-Time Minor League Home Run Record

Mike Hessman has had a long career with most of it taking place in the minor leagues. The 37-year-old has hit 14 home runs in 250 major league plate appearances and hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2010.

He did do something astounding today. He hit his 433rd career minor league home run, passing Buzz Arlett on the all-time list in United States minor league baseball. Arlett held the record for 80 years.

You have to respect Hessman as he stuck with the game he loved even while playing in the minor leagues and not getting many major league opportunities. He’s played 19 seasons in the minors, thats 2,703 games, which is just amazing. It’s a great accomplishment for Hessman and hopefully the Tigers will call him up sometime this season and give him one more chance in the show.
