The Miami Marlins have designated righty Nick Masset for assignment to make room for Henderson Alvarez, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Alvarez is returning from the disabled list and is set to start tomorrow against the Braves.
Masset, 33, pitched just 8 2/3 innings this season for the Marlins, giving up just two earned runs and 11 hits.
The Marlins signed Masset on January 13th to a minor league deal, releasing him on March 31st and then recalling him on April 21st. You have to think there’s a chance that Masset might be back for the Marlins if he clears waivers.
