Notre Dame found a way to win yet again, with quarterback DeShone Kizer completing a 40-yard pass to Will Fuller with 12 seconds left to give his team a 34-27 win. Kizer replaced the injured Malik Zaire earlier in the game.
Notre Dame gave up a 26-14 lead to the Cavaliers and were down 27-26 with just 1:54 remaining in the game. Kizer led the Fighting Irish down for a touchdown and a victory.
Kizer finished 8 of 12 passing with 92 yards and two touchdowns and he ran for a third. Zaire was 7 of 18 passing with 115 yards and a touchdown before exiting the game. He also ran for 87 yards on 10 attempts. Will Fuller caught five passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Virginia quarterback Matt Johns threw for 289 yards on 26 of 38 passing for two touchdowns. Wide receiver Canaan Severin had 11 receptions for 153 yards.
