The Oakland Athletics announced on Friday that they’ve designated reliever Eric O’Flaherty for assignment. Recently acquired pitcher Aaron Brooks will take his place on the active roster.
O’Flaherty was once one of the most promising left-handed relievers in the game, but has struggled to get on track this season. The 30-year-old has posted a 5.91 ERA in 21 1/3 innings and this has by far been the worst season of his career. He spent time on the disabled list earlier this year and that may have something to do with his struggles. The A’s will still owe O’Flaherty for the remainder of his $5.5 million salary this season.
