The offseason full of trades continued with the Oakland A’s trading recently acquired Yunel Escobar to the Washington Nationals for Tyler Clippard. The A’s have been one of the busiest teams this offseason, with the Braves being the next busiest, as they also made a trade today.
Both teams were able to acquire a position of need in the trade, and I feel like both teams came out pretty good.
Escobar is coming off a season where he hit .258 with seven homers and 39 RBIs. He’s not a threat at the plate, but has proven to be a decent fielder when playing shortstop, his natural position. Escobar was traded to the A’s just five days ago in the deal that brought Ben Zobrist to Oakland.
Tyler Clippard is coming off his best season since 2011. He posted a 2.18 ERA in 70 1/3 innings last year. Clippard will give Oakland added support to a bullpen that finished third in baseball last season.
