On Base Percentage (OBP) is used to determine how many times a batter gets on base in comparison to the number of plate appearances that player has. The stat is supposed to be a better representation than batting average of a hitter’s ability to get on base. The stat takes into account how many times a player walks, gets hit by a pitch and how many times they actually hit the ball.
Calculation
(hits+walks+hit by pitch)/(at-bats+walks+hit by pitch+sacrifice flies)
